NOTICE
State Principal Residence Exemption Audit

The State of Michigan is completing PRE (Principal Residence Exemption aka “Homestead”) audits in 76 counties throughout Michigan. It is assumed that Muskegon County is included in this audit.

Audit questionnaires have been sent out and will continue to be sent out over the coming months. If you receive this questionnaire PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE IT! By ignoring this questionnaire, you could subject yourself to having your PRE denied. And depending on how long you have owned and occupied your residence, the state can deny it up to three years prior. Once a denial is issued from the State of Michigan your local assessor cannot get it put back on for those subsequent years that it was denied.

If you have any questions, please email or call the City’s Assessor, Cory Burns.
